Cranial bone histology of Metoposaurus krasiejowensis (Amphibia, Temnospondyli) from the Late Triassic of Poland

In this study, 21 skull bones ofMetoposaurus krasiejowensisfrom the Late Triassic of Poland were investigated histologically. Dermal bones show a diploë structure, with an ornamented external surface. The ridges consist of mostly well vascularized parallel-fibered bone; the valleys are built of an avascular layer of lamellar bone. The thick middle region consists of cancellous bone, with varying porosity. The thin and less vascularized internal cortex consists of parallel-fibered bone. The numerous Sharpey’s fibers and ISF are present in all bones. A topological look at human trabecular bone tissue

Bone quality is affected by trabecular architecture at microscopic level. Various abnormalities of bone tissue lead to altered strength and to an increased susceptibility to fracture, such as Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis, two major health burdens of our society. These are two complex musculoskeletal diseases that mainly concern bone tissue. In the last twenty years, there has been a growing interest in finding an appropriate topological model for the micro-architecture of trabecular bone tissue. In particular, we prove that these models involve general topological spaces. The appropriate notion to deal with is that of CW-complex.

SNPs in bone-related miRNAs are associated with the osteoporotic phenotype

AbstractBiogenesis and function of microRNAs can be influenced by genetic variants in the pri-miRNA sequences leading to phenotypic variability. This study aims to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) affecting the expression levels of bone-related mature microRNAs and thus, triggering an osteoporotic phenotype. An association analysis of SNPs located in pri-miRNA sequences with bone mineral density (BMD) was performed in the OSTEOMED2 cohort (n = 2183). Functional studies were performed for assessing the role of BMD-associated miRNAs in bone cells. Objectives: The success rate of dental implants depends on the type of bone at the implant site. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of the bone parameters at the implant-placement site on peri-implant bone strain distributions. Quantitative computed tomography-assisted osteodensitometry of the pelvis after press-fit cup fixation: a prospective ten-year follow-up.

Background: As a follow-up of a previously reported three-year study, we analyzed the periprosthetic acetabular cortical and cancellous bone density changes at ten years after implantation of a press-fit cup. Methods: Prospective clinical, radiographic, and quantitative computed tomography examinations were performed within ten days and at mean periods of one, three, and ten years after total hip arthroplasty with a press-fit cup, a femoral stem with a tapered design, and alumina-alumina pairing. Periacetabular Cortical and Cancellous Bone Mineral Density Loss After Press-Fit Cup Fixation

The impact of total hip arthroplasty on strain adaptive bone remodeling has been extensively analyzed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. In this study, we present a prospective computed tomography-assisted study of periacetabular cortical and cancellous bone mineral density (in milligrams of calcium hydroxyapatite [CaHA] per milliliter, or mgCaHA/mL) changes 10 days and 1, 3, and 7 years after press-fit cup implantation for 38 hips in vivo.
